A holiday park made for children and families
Our apartments are part of the Obzor Beach Resort: seven buildings in a well-kept holiday park, right on 600 metres of gently shelving sandy beach. Between the pool, the mini golf and the beach bar, the days here rather look after themselves.
If you fancy it, you can simply add meals – from the breakfast buffet to full board (the resort's 2026 price list, per person per day: breakfast €15.34, half board €40.65, full board €65.80 – half and full board include soft drinks, beer, wine and local spirits; children aged 2 to 12 pay half, under-2s go free). Loungers and parasols at the pools are free; on the beach there is a small charge.

If all-inclusive isn't your thing, the town will feed you very well indeed: in Obzor one restaurant follows the next – from traditional Bulgarian dishes to street food to eat while you wander through the park, right through to international cooking. Our tip: most restaurants put on a small set lunch menu. For very little money – soup around €2, a main course €3–5 – you eat really well here and remarkably cheaply. And when it should be as simple as it gets, a reheated frozen pizza on the bench on the beach in front of your apartment tastes pretty good too.
Obzor – the little town of the sun
The ancient Greeks already knew where to settle: they called this place Heliopolis, city of the sun. The modern name, Obzor, means something close to “fine view” – and that is exactly what you get here.
Obzor lies halfway between Varna and Burgas (around 60 km to each) and has kept its easy-going charm: none of the bustle of Golden Sands, but one of the longest sandy beaches in Bulgaria, a relaxed promenade with beach bars, and a town centre where fountains, a summer theatre and the remains of a Roman temple of Jupiter wait for you in the evening. It is about a 20-minute walk into the centre – or take the shuttle for €1.50.

Promenade, beach & fresh fish
Fancy a gentle stroll? The lively beach promenade and the town park are a stone's throw from almost anywhere in Obzor. Right by the water, one fish restaurant follows the next – the Morska Perla, the Morski Briz or the Captain Fish, for example. If you make it to the southern end of the beach, stop at the Roshavata Chayka or the Bulmag: freshly caught fish and crisp salads at genuinely fair prices.
Nature, walking & a piece of history
If you need a break from the beach – off into the woods! Just behind Obzor, starting at the Parvomayska Polyana meadow with its shady picnic spots, is the well-marked “Kaleto” eco trail. Over about two kilometres it takes you – easily managed by young and old alike – through fragrant pine woods to a real piece of history: the ruins of the mediaeval fortress of Kozyak, which local people simply call “Kaleto”, the castle. Would you rather be on the water? Some of the local fishermen will take you along on an unhurried boat trip or a fishing outing – just ask at the harbour.
For balmy summer evenings: eating out
Obzor has a huge choice of wonderful family-run restaurants. For an authentic dinner in a relaxed setting we would suggest Zlatnata Ribka, Dukov, Lazur, Helios, Bistro Obzor, Sevastopol, Hanove, Starata Kashta, Vodenitsata, Per Mare, Liliya or Tonus.
The finest trips in the region
- Neighbouring Byala: the restored fortress on Cape St Athanas and a wander round the new fishing harbour are both worth the trip. The real stars, though, are the famous “White Cliffs”: in their red-and-white layers of rock, researchers can read the precise line at which, some 66 million years ago – after a huge meteorite struck – the age of the dinosaurs came to an end. A genuine natural wonder.
- Tortoises & Cape Emine: the village of Banya is home to Bulgaria's only tortoise centre, where threatened animals are nursed back to health and bred. A little further on, at spectacular Cape Emine, the Balkan Mountains meet the sea – with a historic lighthouse from 1880 and a view that takes your breath away.
- Goritsa animal park: a lovely destination with children, about 13 km away: a small, lovingly laid-out animal park in the village of Goritsa – with paths and wooden walkways through the greenery, where native and exotic animals can be watched from very close up.
- Nessebar, a World Heritage Site: an absolute must. The historic old town sits on a small peninsula – stroll over centuries-old cobblestones, discover ancient churches, browse the little boutiques and let the atmosphere of the rustic restaurants carry you along.
